Expertise

With over 300 employees, Virtual Vehicle Research GmbH is Europe's largest research center for virtual vehicle development in the rail- and automotive sectors. The scientific focus is on interdisciplinary cutting-edge research for climate-neutral mobility. The goal is to develop reliable, software-defined systems that will secure sustainable competitive advantages and future jobs.

VIRTUAL VEHICLE functions as a bridge between university research and advanced industrial development. The research center cooperates with around 100 national and international industrial partners (OEMs, tier-1 and tier-2 suppliers and software providers). Partnerships with around 50 scientific institutions underpin the reputation as an innovation catalyst for vehicle technologies of the future.

VIRTUAL VEHICLE is an international institution in the field of application-oriented vehicle development. More than any other European research institute it unites a variety of sub-disciplines from the field of vehicle simulation technologies. The development of new technologies, methods and tools for individual CAE disciplines and CAE integration takes center stage. A multidisciplinary approach to product development and coupled simulation are central research topics. In addition, VIRTUAL VEHICLE features a variety of test stands and highly sophisticated new measurement methods in both its own test center and in cooperation with the Technical University Graz. This also enables the validation of simulation processes and “hybrid verification”, which involves the connection of simulation and testing for system design.

The fields of knowledge are covered by four research areas:

Energy Efficiency & Human Centered Systems, including: Advanced Measurement & Fluid Flow Simulation (AMFF) Innovative Energy Management & Comfort Systems (EMF) Human Factors (HF) Electrics/Electronics & Software, including: Embedded System Battery Co- Simulation & Software Control Systems Dependable Systems NVH and Information Systems, including: NVH Testing and Measurement Contextual Information Systems & Operational Insights (CISO) Information Systems & Platform Technologies Automotive Data Science Techno-Economics Information Network Extraction Systems (INES) Tribologie and Efficiency Powertrain Dynamics and Acoustics Vehicle Noise Reduction Rail Systems, including: Vehicle Dynamics - Rail Applications Occupant and VRU Safety Structural Safety
