EU Platforms

EARPA Members are involved in a large number of EU Platforms. This list is far from being exhaustive as EARPA members are involved in a very large number of activities. This list aims at highlighting some of the important running initiatives supported by EARPA.

ERTRAC is the European Technology Platform (ETP) for Road Transport. EARPA is an active member of ERTRAC.

ERTRAC was established to mobilize the stakeholders of the Road Transport System, to develop a shared vision and to ensure a timely, coordinated and efficient implementation of Research in Europe, with the objective to tackle the societal challenges of road transport and to enhance the European Competitiveness.

The aim of ERTRAC is to

  • Provide a strategic vision for the road transport sector with respect to research and development;
  • Define strategies and roadmaps to achieve this vision through the formulation and maintenance of a Strategic Research Agenda and technical annexes;
  • Stimulate increased effective public and private investment in road transport research and development;
  • Contribute to improving co-ordination between the European, national, regional and private research and development actions on road transport;
  • Enhance the networking and clustering of Europe's research and development capacity;
  • Promote European commitment to research and technological development ensuring that Europe remains an attractive region for researchers.

ERTRAC members are high level representatives from all road transport sectors including consumers, vehicle manufacturers, component suppliers, road infrastructure operators and developers, service providers, energy suppliers, research organisations, cities and regions as well as public authorities at both European Union and national level.

ERTRAC Strategic Research Agenda
ERTRAC Strategic Research Agenda: As an important partner of ERTRAC, EARPA actively contributed to the elaboration of the ERTRAC Strategic Research Agenda which was released end 2004. This Strategic Research Agenda is set in the context of the economic, societal and environmental challenges facing Europe and aims to support:

  • European economic competitiveness;
  • Quality of life of European society such as mobility access, social inclusion, safety and security;
  • The environment including the reduction of greenhouse gases, emissions, noise, and optimized use of resources and recycling.
